Ceramic i3+

IRR measures infrared rejection under the manufacturer’s test method. Autobahn publishes Black Ceramic at up to 89% IRR and Ceramic i3 at up to 93% IRR, measured at 1025 nm. TSER measures rejection across the full solar spectrum. Compare both figures for the same shade and test conditions; an IRR percentage is not the percentage reduction in cabin temperature.

Shade, glass and test method affect the published figures. Ask us for the current manufacturer data sheet for the film and shade in your quote.

Black Ceramic

$500/sedan

A genuine single-layer ceramic film with Autobahn's full lifetime warranty. Won't fade or discolor. True black appearance. Right choice when UV protection and appearance are the priority and heat rejection is secondary — garaged vehicles, frequent shade parking.

Ceramic i3

$700/sedan

Three nano-ceramic layers provide up to 93% infrared rejection at 1025 nm. The film Naples-area drivers mention by name when recommending us. Right choice for daily drivers in Florida who spend significant time in their vehicle and want to genuinely solve the heat problem.

Ceramic i3+

$950/sedan

Four nano-ceramic layers. 99% infrared rejection. Doesn't get more complete. Right choice for luxury vehicles, light-colored interiors, or anyone who wants the highest available performance. The $250 difference from i3 is easy to justify over the lifetime of the film.

All three Autobahn films install with a true, neutral black appearance — no off-colors, no haze, no blue or purple cast.

XPEL is heavily marketed and the film customers ask about most. We install XPEL products and know them well. XPEL ceramic films exhibit a visible blue haziness at certain angles, particularly on dark vehicles and large glass panels. Color consistency across different window positions can also vary.

Autobahn does not have this issue. Consistent, neutral, true black across all three films and all VLT levels.

XPEL's marketing investment is substantial. Its dealer network is large. It wins brand recognition contests. What it doesn't win, in our professional assessment as installers of both products, is the appearance test on the glass.
